Lumina (2019)
for soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, bassoon, percussion, piano, violin, viola, cello
duration: 5'
Commissioned by LA Phil for performance by International Contemporary Ensemble
Programme Note

Lumina takes inspiration from bioluminescent clusters of Arachnocampa luminosa (New Zealand glowworms), and the stasis and resonance of the caves they inhabit. Beyond their constellation-like appearance from a distance, the larvae’s blue-green light lures flying insects, ensnaring them in sticky mucus-droplet threads.

Lumina was commissioned by LA Phil for performance by International Contemporary Ensemble in the Noon to Midnight Festival 2019.
